MET JIM CARREY May 2, 2008

Believe me, it was a very special evening in Shreveport, standing on the Louisiana Wave Studio set of “I Love You, Philip Morris,” and meeting Jim Carrey for the first time—after all these years of saying that he’s starring in our “Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!” movie. For a half hour we were “herding cats” together as we chatted about his love for the character of Robert Ripley, and his ideas for pushing the believability/unbelievability of Ripley’s claims and exploits even further than it already is in the current script (by Ripley pal Steve Oedekerk). “Let’s get this movie made soon!” were his parting words, as he walked climbed back onto the boat and proceeded to get drenched, without complaining, again, along with co-star Ewan McGregor.

Here’s the kind of rain we created for the film: [Click]

is Ripley's still going to get made? It caught my attention when the beautiful Gong Li was attached.

Yes, Ripley is still getting made! Thanks for your support. Paramount is in the final stages of selecting the director, so that the project can move forward again. Stay tuned to the Internet for news on who will helm the movie.

It's been a few days now since you said "Paramount is about to announce a new director".

BTW what do you have to do with the film? I couldn't find you on IMDB or anything.

I’m the producer who introduced Ripley’s to Paramount. Check http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0492445/fullcredits#cast

Thanks. I have some questions for you now, not sure if you're able to comment on them.

When can we expect the announcement of the new director? Next few days, weeks, month?

With the new screenplay by Steve Oedekerk, is it an improvment on Scott's and Larry's? And Why/Why not?

Since Burton was originally going to direct--Danny Elfman was the probable composer. Is this not the case now?

And is the new director a big name, pretty big name or a no name?

Thanks Ken for your time,
Dan

Dan—Thanks for your interest in “Ripley’s.” I’m afraid I can’t comment on your questions right now. Announcements will be made by Paramount when the moment arrives. I think we’ll be happy. I’ll do my best to post when things are official. We’re excited that the film will be moving forward soon.

Is there any chance that Tim Burton will be returning as the director? He would be a perfect choice for this film.

Gong Li still in it?

Ken Atchity said...

It’s too early to be talking about cast. our next step is selecting the new director, and that is proceeding apace.

*Gong Li still in it?*

Sorry. Hard to imagine the glorious Gong Li doing anything written by Steve Oedekerk.
LOLOLOL.

So its been well over a month since you said "Paramount is about to announce a new director!"

Is there any news or anything? When can we expect the announcement?

Ken Atchity said...

“Unfortunately, these things take time, especially because there are a number of directors interested. We’re now expecting an announcement in October. Thanks for your continued interest.”

Dan said...

So it's October 21st and still no announcment. What's up? I'm getting tired of waiting on this movie.

Ken Atchity said...

I’m sorry you’re getting tired! New director is chosen. Will be announced as soon as negotiations close, any day now.
